Surprise Ceremony

Illawarra Mercury

Tuesday February 20, 2007

MICHELE TYDD

Sharon Renwick and Thomas McDonald made their wedding day a magical mystery tour for their 35 guests.

Nobody, including the bridal party, knew of the ceremony and reception venues until moments before they happened.

"Tom is a bit of a romantic," Sharon said. "He came up with the idea to break away from tradition and have a little fun."

They were married on Minnamurra boat ramp at 9.30am on January 20 with a reception at Alexander's restaurant at Coolangatta Estate.

"Minnamurra is where Tom took me on the way to Minnamurra Golf Club on our first date three years ago," Sharon said.

"He thought it was beautiful and wanted to show it to me."

The wedding guests were transported to the two locations by bus with a driver who got in the swing of things by including a number of detours to keep them guessing.

"In the end they were all taking $10 bets on the location," Sharon said.

"A few guessed correctly in the lead-up but it was Stuart Quinn who won the money because he stuck to his guns.

The couple enjoyed a week's honeymoon in Vanuatu.
