ACCORDING to marriage celebrant Lorraine Lehman-Jones a wedding ceremony should emphasise what is important to the bride and groom.

"I can put together a ceremony that is personalised and special for each couple," Lorraine said.

In the case of second marriages, the celebrant likes to involve the children in the ceremony, because they need to be recognised and welcomed into the union.

"In one ceremony I conducted, the groom also gave a ring and said vows to his new step daughter, it was lovely," Lorraine said.

The wedding can also include special touches such as a butterfly release, a rose ceremony, where a rose is used to signify a deceased family member, or a candle ceremony.

Upon booking Lorraine will sit down with the couple to discuss their requirements and talk about any ideas they may like to incorporate.

"I give you a complete choice with your ceremony. I am there to help guide you and make you aware of all your options," Lorraine said.

"I also encourage couples to write their own vows.

"Apart from giving the ceremony an individual touch it helps the bride and groom to think about why their partner is so special to them and what they are committing to."

Another added benefit of hiring a marriage celebrant is that you can choose from a wide range of picturesque locations for your ceremony whether it be on the beach, in a garden, on a mountaintop or even at a winery.

Couples need to book Lorraine at least one month and one day - the legal requirement - before the wedding.
